Modernizing Customer Data Collection for a Boutique Retailer

Problem


A boutique retailer relied on a manual, paper-based process for collecting customer contact information. Staff kept a spiral-bound notebook at the checkout counter where customers wrote their names and email addresses. The store manager then manually typed those entries into outgoing newsletters. This approach was time-consuming, error‑prone, and unsustainable as customer volume grew. It also prevented the business from maintaining clean, usable data for future marketing or automation efforts.  


Solution


To streamline the workflow, the team built a simple Power Apps solution deployed on an iPad at the sales counter. The app enabled customers to enter their: 


  • Name 

  • Email address 

  • Phone number 

  • Mailing address 


All data was sent directly to a SharePoint list, eliminating the need for manual transcription. The solution required very little time and budget and was delivered end to end within a month.

The retailer saw immediate efficiency gains:
